SET FOR LIFE?

GOLD & SILVER, GOLD AND MONEY, SELLING GOLD/SILVER   No comments yet

There is an interesting commercial making its rounds where a gentleman travels the world all while shouting, “Set for life” along each stop. Obviously this guy recently won the lottery and is now out enjoying the experiences of only a lucky few. Now, for the record, I’m not a lottery player. In fact, I bought lottery tickets several decades ago when California first introduced a state lottery but never scratched them. Who knows, maybe I missed out on my own “set for life” opportunity – but I doubt it, and here is why.

Each person has their own perception of what it means to be set for life. Unfortunately most perceptions are unrealistic considering the time we live. “Yes” this includes those who store wealth in physical silver or gold, too. Somehow most of us walking God’s green earth falsely associate wealth abundance with a “set for life” situation; not true.

While consulting with those interested in storing wealth in PM (precious metal) I usually ask, “Why”. In other words, what is the goal of making such a nontraditional monetary effort when 99% of the pack is content on striving for the proverbial American Dream?

The answers vary between leveraging PMs as insurance (please see the Q & A below), wealth preservation, or even financial stability – but some flat out admit the goal is to ride gold, or silver, to a point of filthy rich. The ones motivated by the later fail to recognize what a world with $500 per ounce silver means for a society unfamiliar with economic correction yet victimized by decades of monetary intervention or the asset bubbles derived from such unrestricted intervention.

As of October 2013 things are clicking along pretty good, right? Sure we have Capital Hill arguing over Obama Care. Sure we have our national parks closed while the powers in charge battle over how to spend the next record level of borrowed money (currency), too. But all in all most Americans view life as improving somewhat content by the illusion of recovery. For most, they view the future as improving.

But those entrusting PM are not experiencing improvement. Many of you bought gold and silver only to watch it plummet, in dollar terms, well below what most PM experts could imagine. Some of you are to the point of doubting your prudence all while dismayed by a safe haven not looking so safe – I understand. The benefits of wealth stored within the confines of such discretion are yet to be realized, but imminently closer with each passing day.

For you – physical silver or gold is a world away from creating a set for life financial situation.

For you I offer this comfort. Enjoy this temporary era of monetary stability derived from the ability to debase a currency by creating trillions of dollars from thin air. Some, maybe most, trusting hard assets awake each morning thinking today is the day all monetary hell brakes loose sending PMs soaring to the moon. You underestimate the power to print money and the temporary stability it provides.

Looking into our future we see a set for life mentality replaced with the longing for opportunity. The dream of a never-ending retirement portfolio will be replaced with the dream of enough employment just to get by. The home on the beach replaced with a roof over the head along with a warm meal on the table. This new perspective will be the ultimate monetary education most are yet to comprehend.

But for now all those entrusting physical PMs live with the daily love-hate relationship that comes from a global currency yet to find its legs in an age of global monetary intervention. This writer will not pretend to guess when PM will break from the pack but if history is a good indicator then metals rising should be expected. Until then we stay the course realizing most living in the USA live a life well beyond what most of the world could ever dream.

COMMENT: I view precious metal as insurance just like any other “what if” insurance policy used to protect any other asset. Accumulating additional wealth byway of gold is not my expectation as much as protecting what I have. My PM goal is to preserve and my expectation is nothing more.

TPS Reply: Good, and thanks for the comment. I too view PMs as insurance but my opinion is you’re selling PM short by failing to factor the vulnerability of other dollar-based assets or the benefit of a universal currency (physical silver and gold).

Honestly, other assets will not hold today’s “value” in terms of comparable value. We must agree that a currency victimized by debasement blurs true value in a currency sense (cents). This is why hyper-inflated economies of the past used billion-dollar bills to buy loaves of bread. We cannot compare today’s bread value to such an era of debasement and economic calamity, agreed? Nor can we view those holding substantial wealth in hyper-inflated dollars as wealthy or financially protected.

I don’t singularly hold wealth in gold to “insure”  or hedge against the value of my home or other personal assets. I realize gold rising will not support my wealth derived from other assets (insurance) as much as replace it.  This is why PM experts refer to such a time as a transfer of wealth. Wealth transfers to countries, and individuals, holding hard assets. This is nothing new or just my opinion, this is historical monetary fact.

One other point, please. Overgrown governments do not go away without a fight. They first consume the wealth of her people in order to appease the masses (those feeling entitled). Five minutes watching your evening news will validate we are living in such a time as you read this reply. You can call it insurance if you like but I call it financial freedom stored in inconspicuous ounces.

Thanks for the comment.

QUESTION: I read how you store your savings away from traditional banking institutions. Can you expand on this?

TPS Reply: You’re correct, and I would love. The risk of capital controls in today’s age is very real. Some call it a banking “bail-in” – some call it a banking holiday. Regardless the term, the result is a separation of wealth which means a separation of personal freedom. A society separated from their wealth is vulnerable to those controlling it.

I choose to maintain control of my savings by storing most of it in physical silver or gold. This sounds unusual to most but up until the last forty years this is how everyone stored wealth (gold-backed dollars). A twenty dollar bill was easily exchanged for $20 in gold from a bank which means your savings was stored in PM.

Today nearly all savers view their savings as safe thanks to the FDIC. This safety net is less comforting when we consider this insurance will protect savers from an institutional failure but offers no protection from a capital control mandate. The difference should be researched if confusing.

This may come as a surprise but I’m not a gold guy. I own gold for many reasons but much prefer to store wealth in an emerging business properly structured and income producing. It is far easier to generate wealth from a small business than wait for gold/silver to appreciate.

Now, back to your question. If I need to use my “savings” I simply convert a few hunks of gold for dollars. This allows me take a vacation or do whatever anyone else could do with a more traditional bank savings. Email me, or call, to find out exactly how I safely make this PM to dollar exchange. Thanks for the question.

THE ART OF BUYING OR SELLING GOLD

BUYING GOLD/SILVER, GOLD AND MONEY, GOLD OR SILVER BUBBLE, SELLING GOLD/SILVER   No comments yet

Precious metal is a well kept secret. Folks who own physical gold, or silver, seldom advertise their wise discretion. Few blab across social networking and less openly discuss the nuts and bolts of buying PM (precious metal). In most cases this leaves you, the novice, searching for the right metal offered at a fair price. It’s hard for me to put an exact percentage on how many newbies pay far beyond necessary but I will estimate more than half do, or receive less, than the metal recommended here at TPS (The Prospector Site).

FACT #1: Not all Gold is good

It is a misnomer that gold is always a good investment (paper gold can be the worst choice for wealth storage in many cases). Anything other than physical PM carries far too much risk considering our age of fiat correction and financial insecurity. For this reason alone paper PM is not worthy of today’s discussion or space.

Retail gold, like jewelry, is a blend of artistic effort and precious metal. An established value is always subjective but, nevertheless, still a store of value better than most of today’s “typical” investments. In times of economic despair jewelry returns to a value measured in melt worth. This is why I recommend new bullion, rounds or bars over jewelry.

All physical PM buyers pay a fee over and above the intrinsic value of a gold bar, round, nugget, bullion, etc. This “premium” is what makes those selling PM wealthy but offers no real value to you as the buyer. The older (or rarer) the gold hunk the higher the premium, very simple. In return…….. new bullion, rounds, and bars offer the lowest premium.

Most folks buying gold in 2013 are not collectors or speculators. They, gold owners that is, view the echos of economic recovery as back-ground noise and realize we very well could be facing the end of a great fiat currency experiment. For this reason alone all should own physical silver or gold.

I recommend due diligence before buying your first gram of gold. Old coins are cool but best saved for the experienced PM buyer. Proof coins are flashy but also best saved for those solidly vested in raw precious metal beforehand. Think low-premium PM offerings that are easy to store, insure, and someday sell or trade.

FACT #2: Not all PM advice is good

This site doesn’t sell silver or gold but I would love to know how many precious-metal peddlers hear, “I understand gold is a good investment. What do you recommend?” At such time the art of buying or selling PM is in the hands of a stranger who could be more profit inclined than making sure you receive the best bang for your buck.

I hear so many nightmare stories of good gold intentions going bad. These tales always include trust, deceit, disillusion, distaste, and eventually embarrassment. At the end of the day far too many pay far more than necessary, for PM, because they fail to arm themselves with education.

There is no reason to fall prey to the PM distrustful, not in the internet age. Your education should not come by way of solicitation. Hard asset sellers are always well rehearsed with trigger words and phrases. These trigger phrases stir emotion and prompt protection but have no place for those implementing a controlled PM plan.

The best source for education and advice always comes from the unbiased.

FACT #3: You will someday sell

I have a close friend that has owned physical silver for years. He has no plans to ever sell regardless the value, regardless the offering. What he doesn’t realize is that someday he or someone sharing his last name will sell, or trade, his buckets of silver. It could be for profit, it could be for freedom, or it could be to feed the family, who knows…… but it will trade hands someday.

I personally will not buy silver or gold that I can’t easily track real-time value. Sure owning a coin that spent hundreds of years lost at sea is cool but how does the average Joe know its true value. After all, the only guarantee we have is a fluctuating melt value, right? For this reason I recommend asking two questions before committing to buy; how much are you asking and how much you will pay me to buy it back.

The difference between the two prices is very important. As of August 25th, 2013, a one-ounce gold bullion will run a buyer around $1475. The same bullion, less the premium, will sell around $1390-$1400ish. A second-hand market will bring a few more dollars. By the way, some PM buybacks require a dealer or broker to notify the IRS, some won’t. Do you know the difference?

But our faith in PM has less to do with dollars with each passing deficit day. Gold’s true value is its exchange value. For instance, I pay less attention to what gold trades in dollars compared to how many ounces of gold it takes to buy an average home in my neck of the woods or a sandy retreat countries away. This exchange value is the future gauge of your net worth. Dollar value is relevant now but this could change quickly.

QUESTION: Thanks for answering my questions, DC. Yes, it’ll be scary if the governments get creative and do something like Operation Rize. Can’t agree more about diversification. As for the insurance, I think I’ll ask a jewelry store nearby first.

And what do you think is likely to happen in the future? Will we have a repetition of what happened in 1980, where PM prices skyrocketed and retraced later? But considering the world’s current level of debt, can the central banks raise the interest rates like they did back then? Or will we have hyperinflation? But are the central banks so stupid to allow that to happen? Will we stick to PMs forever, or will we have to switch to other assets someday?

Looking forward to your reply and thank you very much.

TPS Reply: You’re welcome, thanks for asking great questions. What happened to PMs in 1979-80 was amazing but only a small sample of our future. So many things have changed on a global level that will affect us all on some capacity. Some will prosper but most will fall victim to an existence that only existed because of a debt-based lifestyle.  I have great concern for those not PM protected.

TPS often hears from readers who boast over their debt-free lifestyle. This is great, and recommended, but the truth is all will fill the pain of worldwide default as it becomes painfully obvious trillion $ obligations can never be repaid. This mess is what happens when we live in a society consumed by the here and now. Our commerce world has consumed the minds and energy of far too many.

You’re right; central banks will send all major currencies into a level of inflation unimaginable. I’m not sure if hyperinflation is the correct term but, nevertheless, it will not be kind to those attempting to live on a fixed pension or income. Most victims will view these days of economic correction (disaster) as “depressed” not realizing such a time is nothing more than another example of what happens when a fiat currency is overproduced. Silver and gold will account accordingly.

A dangerous trio has hijacked America’s future. The FED (central bank), Wall Street and politicians now control our economy. Washington DC proper now boasts an economic boom while the rest of America suffers from a myriad of challenges including, but not limited to, low-paying jobs, rising cost of living, financial tension, etc.

The world’s central banks circle the wagons in order to save our fragile banking system but not willing admit this effort is futile, destructive, and unfair. Anyone relying on a currency, not real money or hard assets, will, too, soon realize wealth stored in paper is growing worthless. Such an era will bode well for those holding physical silver/gold and my prediction is this run will not end anytime soon.

Although, we will reach a point when other assets will become so affordable, in terms of gold/silver, that the temptation to barter will flush wealth out of PMs and back to traditional assets (like real estate, stocks, etc). I don’t see a PM bubble anytime soon, nor do I see anyone holding PM in a hurry to trade. Thanks for the great questions and comment.

QUESTION:  Have you noticed the national debt clock? This is only possible because of our digital non-existent currency age.

TPS Reply:  Yep, it keeps rising, right? This is what happens when a government grows beyond its tax base. My recommendation is to keep stacking silver and gold until it stops.

Our transition to a digital currency is right on time. How else can a currency realize such creation on a global level? We are in the fourth quarter of a fiat currency meltdown created, and now propelled, by nothing more than greed and a political failure to transmit honesty, integrity, and strength. Other than that — this administration and other political leaders are doing a fine job by systematically dismantling our country piece by piece.

Fake Money Threatens our National Security, again!

BUYING GOLD/SILVER, GOLD & REAL ESTATE, GOLD AND MONEY, SELLING GOLD/SILVER, STOCKS AND GOLD/SILVER   No comments yet

Does the name Sam Upham ring a historical bell? Mr. Upham imprinted his name into history books in the most unusual fashion. In fact, Mr. Upham learned, well before Mr. Bernanke I should add, that the power to print is more profitable than the effort to work. Maybe this is why our gentleman of the hour printed nearly 15 million counterfeit Confederate dollars during this country’s Civil War over 150 years ago. Some respected historians believe our Civil War’s outcome was offhandedly determined by one “Yankee scoundrel” with the power to print money.

History is a road map seldom followed. So many readers are asking what it will take for physical PM (precious metal) to rise without questioning what happens when fake money rules the world. Like a wave building, the ill effects of fiat printing will soon position those holding sound money into a posture of wealth accumulation. Our country’s history is the only proof needed.

I would like to expand our history lesson for a paragraph, or two, before comparing a circa 1862 American currency to today’s precious metal alternative. The Confederate South created a fiat currency to afford a war. This new fiat currency, commonly called Confederate dollars, held no gold restraint because of a 100% reliance (sound familiar?) on those with the power to print.

Over creation, or over printing Confederate dollars led to rapid inflation as confidence in the money dropped all while volumes of Confederate dollars increased. It is worth mentioning that the cost of a man’s suit ran just under $3000 Confederate dollars as inflation gripped……. and then crushed this fiat money of the South.

For the record, the aforementioned Mr. Upham didn’t work for the Confederate Treasury. In fact, Mr. Upham was nothing more than a money bootlegger who realized the potential of combining cheap paper with barrels of ink. His ability to create fake money accelerated the Confederate currency into an inflationary spiral that led to the end of the Civil War!!!

I’m not a conspiracy theorist but it’s worth mentioning Mr. Upham was never caught, even with a $10k bounty on his head, and rumored to be protected by our country’s secret service till his death, hmm.

NATIONAL SECURITY:

Not a day passes without the mention of our country’s national security. The War on Terror rages long after September 2001 and the argument of a safer world is debatable. Less debatable are the costs of wars under the pretense of national security. To put it bluntly, we continue to borrow/print money in order to fight rotating wars.

The parallels between an extinct Confederate currency and today’s US dollar have reached an undeniable state of similarity.  The very act of overproducing our currency is now a compromise to our national security. This realization grows more haunting when we factor growing Middle Eastern tension and other threats of war.

Only a thin line separates the power to print, and then wage war, with the vulnerability of over creating a fiat currency that intensifies the threat to our national security. The Federal Reserve Bank promotes control but their actions say otherwise.

I’m not sure who tomorrow’s history will blame for the demise of today’s reserve currency. Will we print our dollar to death in order to sustain our consumer-based economy or will we destroy our currency in the name of national security while fighting never-ending wars?

Regardless why, physical silver and gold will protect the wealth of the few willing to accept today’s historical monetary lesson.

QUESTION:  DC, are we talking about someday trading pricey PMs back into a fiat currency (US Dollars)? Not sure I’m comfortable exchanging sound money for paper promises.

TPS Reply: Thanks for the comment and question; not a week passes without someone asking the same “what to do when it’s time to move on” question. You are correct, there will come a time to leverage wealth stored in silver/gold for another asset. We often envision this step, or process, transitioning through dollars first but this most likely will not be the case.

Complications arise the minute we convert an asset back into dollars. This complication could be a tax consequence (red flags or capital gains), wealth exposure, even security issues. The word that comes to mind is discretion. Discretion is a key component to owning, storing, and someday trading precious metal.

It’s worth mentioning that the same forces soon to propel PM higher will also have an adverse effect on other assets now over leveraged; real estate, stocks, and many businesses are a perfect example. When a business or property becomes overly leveraged it becomes vulnerable to a decline in revenue. The burden of leverage remains the same even if profits decline. This is the number one reason small businesses fail when a consumer-based economy cuts back on spending.

The potential to buy (trade) severely discounted property, stock, and businesses for precious metal will increase over this decade and probably the next, too. Those storing wealth in silver and gold will eventually realize the financial benefit of trading PM for another distressed asset. This trade bypasses the need to liquidate PMs into dollars, if structured properly.

This site will discuss many other options to trade, or sell, physical silver and gold in the near future. Thanks for the question.

QUESTION:  How does someone new to PMs know the best time to buy? I hear experts mention a “bottom” but how is the bottom recognizable?

TPS Reply:  Great question, thanks. The PM bottom is not recognizable…….. anyone claiming to know differently is nothing more than a paid PM spokesman. Too many forces now control day to day PM fluctuations, unfortunately. This means we must keep our eye on the long-term goal of wealth preservation by creating our own personal gold standard.

If you’re new to PM, and unprotected, please consider buying ASAP. No one knows when some event will push our economy to the brink…… just like the days in September 2008. The world’s banking institutions are now risky investment houses and highly leveraged. Sure central banks have rolled billions in dollars of liquidity into some banks but this cushion is pale compared to the exposure of most financial institutions.

My opinion is regardless the price paid PMs are worth it, especially when we consider the potential to preserve wealth ever so discretely. No need complicating this gift by guessing an actual PM bottom that will someday soon seem irrelevant.

Contrarily, I often recommend those PM protected to exercise patience when adding to their growing stack. The trend of late is declining. This means, in all probability, the same dollars will buy more metal in the very near future but only recommended for those already PM protected. Thanks for the question, and reading TPS.

ARE 100 oz. SILVER BARS IN YOUR FUTURE?

BUYING GOLD/SILVER, GOLD & SILVER, GOLD AND MONEY, GOLD/SILVER COINS, SELLING GOLD/SILVER, STOCKS AND GOLD/SILVER   No comments yet

By nature most folks willing to trade dollars for physical silver or gold do so secretively.  No fan fair, no cocktail party announcements either. The monetarily prudent simply trade fiat for the hardest asset – all while discretely living the day to day routine of life. The choice to buy large silver bars, or not, is one worth considering especially as we near an imminent point of silver rationing and pending internet trade taxation. Both rationing and the inevitable taxation on all e-commerce will change the what, where, and why of physical silver.

Today’s physical silver world remains a great maze of mystic confusion for those new to precious metal. By far, most newbies entrust what they buy, silver speaking, to a complete stranger who just happens to be a person selling PM (precious metal) and next in line. The conversations vary but the result is always the same. The precious metal illiterate (no disrespect intended) buy whatever the PM sales representative recommends.

TPS doesn’t “tell” folks what to buy, nor do I offer pinpoint financial advice either. My goal is one of monetary education because someone educated rarely fall victim to manipulation or bias opinion. Honestly, I can tell this annoys some of my readers by proof of emails asking for more specific advice on what to buy and how much. My opinion is that no one person walking the earth today can accurately predict the how much and when of precious metal, especially considering the monetary intervention that clouds all assets.

For this reason alone I recommend we stick to the facts. The fact is silver’s value will rise (sorry, I don’t know when) as more individuals realize printing dollars only benefits the super wealthy and political psychopaths of the world. This inevitable awakening is one we often discuss here at TPS. Combine such an awakening to a truly limited supply of precious metal and it’s easy to see why metal values can do nothing but rise beyond the expectations of most who understand some, or nothing, about monetary truths.

A larger than typical hunk of silver is an interesting storage of wealth. It is much more than a bar of silver. Some view bars of silver as bulky and heavy when actually such a formation of money is nothing more than a huge stack of $100 bills repellant against the ills of a fiat age. Those willing to buy large bars of silver enjoy the fulfillment of buying physical silver within 5% of spot. For comparison’s sake, a legal tender one ounce bullion coin will cost its owner a premium 20 to 35% beyond silver’s spot value.

This savings is undeniable, but not reason enough to exclusively own large silver bars. Such a large hunk of silver has its benefits but still might not be the right silver for you.

It’s a natural tendency for humans to picture the future in now terms. By example, my son graduates from high school today and merely weeks away from leaving home for the first time. But in my mind I can’t grasp a future with him living anywhere but where he’s always lived. Some of us view silver similarly not realizing someday silver’s value could rise hundreds of dollars beyond today’s dollar assessment. The divisibility issue in such an age will complicate trading such a large hunk of real currency.

For this reason alone I offer this PM advice. Consider storing some silver in smaller denominations; like one ounce bars, rounds, or bullion, exactly as you would a $20, $50, or $100 bill. Then, view a larger bar of silver (like a 100 oz. bar) as you would a savings account or long-term storage of wealth. Silver is a true source of liquidity but not necessary a divisible source simultaneously.

Please consider bar size just another thing to keep in mind as folks consider adding physical silver as part of self-reliant lifestyle.

QUESTION:  An acquaintance used your consulting service and something you recommended for them to consider I find confusing. You recommended they purchase one ounce silver bullion even though they will pay far more than a larger bar premium. Why would you recommend something that will land them less silver by paying more money?

TPS Reply:  Great question so thanks for asking. There are many folks who receive the same recommendation, from me, to buy silver ounce offerings over larger bars. This recommendation is 100% based on an individual’s financial situation and long-term monetary plan far more than my personal preference.

I don’t like the idea of acquiring large silver or gold bars until after securing one-ounce legal tender coins or rounds. We live in an age of great monetary volatility and uncertainty…… even though few are willing to admit it. If September of 2008 proved anything it was just how quickly a life dependent on a fragile banking/Wall Street world can turn upside down. Your ability to store real wealth within arm’s reach is not only prudent but necessary. Small silver, in physical form, will always be a universal source of money.

The truth is the majority of folks new to silver will never afford anything but single ounce form of precious metal. As silver rises, some will find themselves limited to 1/2 silver offerings as they struggle just to make ends meet. There will always be a market for large silver bars but nothing close to the secondary demand for one ounce silver. With that said, the option to melt larger bars into smaller ones will always exist as a way to divide such a large store of wealth.

I have no crystal ball but if I had to guess here it is. My bet is large bars will be the last to go as demand erases silver inventory. The first to vanish will be recognizable single ounce bullion or rounds even though the additional premium when compared to larger bars. Why not buy one ounce form while the option still sits on the table? Thanks for the question.

COMMENT: Silver prices are taking a beating lately all while the stock market roars to new highs. This only proves most Americans will trust the US dollar over silver when times are tough.

TPS Reply:  Thanks for sharing your comment. The DOW is on fire, this is undeniable even to those religiously respectful of silver and gold’s future as real money. Short-term speaking, a rising DOW along with declining silver puts PM writers in the far corner of credibility. This writer loses not one minute’s sleep since the long-term outlook for PM is stronger than ever before. The crowd is not an indicator of prudent monetary action.

You’re also correct with your analysis of Americans running toward the USD when time are tough, but. Long investor lines are not reason alone to join the dollar bandwagon. Do you recall the long lines during the Dot.com bubble burst? What about the long line of suckers waiting to buy overpriced housing just before the bubble burst, too?

The one word in your comment that jumps out most to me is trust. Folks continue to trust the US dollar because it is the world’s most overproduced currency. The FED camouflages the dollar’s weakness by printing record levels of supporting currency. This illusion tricks those trusting the dollar to spend, borrow, and fail to recognize such a way of life has a temporary shelf life. I hate to imagine the chaos when dollar investors around the world realize its very existence is in the hands of a government trillions of dollars in debt.

I think I’ll keep stacking silver regardless how low it drops or how high it soars, thanks.

WHY SILVER & GOLD ARE PRICELESS

GOLD & SILVER, GOLD AND MONEY, SELLING GOLD/SILVER   No comments yet

Today’s title could sound odd considering gold just had its worst day in 30 years. As I write, and probably as you’re reading, economic prognosticators still relish in repeated “I told you so.”  We will keep this short today because I have what I want to say and nothing more. The last few days were draining for not only those willing to own PM but for the few willing to justify PMs in a published sense. For us, a PM shakedown is twofold when you add credibility into the equation. Nonetheless, let’s dive into why silver & gold are priceless.

Good day to all and thanks for joining TPS. If you’re new to PM (precious metal) then you picked a great day to join us, congratulations by the way. It appears the smoke is starting to clear from the PM arena and it’s looking like both silver and gold took a real beating, at least at first glance.

Every situation is a learning experience, do you agree? Personally, I have but one question left to answer. It’s not why PM prices fell so suddenly or quickly.  Nor is my primary question one that asks who is behind such PM brutality and volatility. The above questions will twist and turn themselves into history and certainly don’t need my help.

My only question is “Why?” Why did so many paper PM holders sell because of fear while the majority holding physical PM line up to buy more? The answer to this question is the very foundation of precious metal. A truer understanding to this question is the cornerstone.

Paper PM investors proved over the last few days their inability to think for themselves. If precious metals have taught me anything over the last decade it is the ability to tap into my own mind to make prudent monetary decisions for my family. We are nearing a point when this is the most valuable asset (ability to think for yourself) a person can claim.

TPS doesn’t sell PM, but we keep a close eye on those who do. All PM sources are reporting record sells of both gold and silver all while the paper PM market experiences the biggest paper liquidation in history, why?

How can two sides sharing the same asset be so far apart? How is one side, paper PM, so disconnected from the true benefit of PM while the other end stills view PM as the last asset to go?

This next statement will sound odd but I’m going to roll it out anyway. For me at least, PM has served its purpose and if both metals dropped to zero tomorrow they still provided this owner with a lifetime of knowldege. If I’ve learned anything from physical PM it is the ability to question what so many take as factual.

Precious metals have taught me the difference between money and currency, the difference between real wealth and the illusion of wealth, between fiscal restraint and a politically motivated smoke screen, and, most importantly……. the difference between building a life of independence over a compromise of freedom and liberty.

A person willing to make the effort to buy physical PM is the same person equipped with the ability to think on their own feet without input from an overreaching bureaucracy. If silver or gold dropped to worthlessness tomorrow this gift will sustain us forever. There is nothing more valuable than the combination of knowledge and effort.

SILVER & GOLD’S FUTURE:

Many of you are silently asking, “What’s next for PM?” First, I’m 100% convinced silver and gold will skyrocket beyond the belief of even the most skeptical. I’m also convinced that the last few days of volatility are nothing but a taste of the future, here is why.

Think how nerve racking it was to watch silver drop from $30ish to $20ish, like April 2013. Can you imagine the confusion when silver, valued in dollars, dips from $180ish to $150ish? What about a dip in gold from $3200ish to $2400ish? My point is each person breathing air should expect economic volatility from here forward as “normal”. Yes this includes, especially includes, precious metals.

I believe the paper PM market will separate from the physical market. In fact, we’re seeing this already but this doesn’t mean we should expect a steady incline. Our fiat currency age will not transform itself to real money without huge spikes, dips, valleys, and everything in between.

No one can accurately tell you when to buy more precious metal no more than when to sell it. Personally, I believe we’ll reach an age when it just makes sense (according to our ability to think for ourselves) to trade silver or gold for something else. I’m not so sure today’s dollar value perception will play part of such a day.

GOLD RUN

BUYING GOLD/SILVER, GOLD & SILVER, GOLD AND MONEY, SELLING GOLD/SILVER   No comments yet

On an otherwise uneventful February day in 2009, Criss Angel walked on water…kind of. Millions watched this event dumbfounded even though Criss explained it was all an illusion. My youngest son bribed me into viewing this televised miracle with hot buttered popcorn but I must admit this illusion looked as real as the nose on your face. But even walking on water fails to compare to the monetary illusions soon to shift untold wealth into precious metal. Today I’ll do everything in my power to expose the greatest wealth transference on earth. Thanks for joining TPS (The Prospector Site).

A run to gold or silver is NOT a natural occurrence. It is a reactionary result derived from a separation between you and your wealth. Nothing will cause monetary panic faster than a separation of wealth. Below is a must read paragraph that truly describes my point better than I can depict.

Some walk around in a financially comfortable delusion about our current system (banking) even though we all realize that we will never payback our $16 trillion in national debt.  You also have a banking system backing $7.4 trillion in insured deposits with $32 billion (that is, 0.43 percent).  Yet in our current system the Fed is digitally inflating away our currency and limiting available banking options.  Are we simply ignoring the too big to fail? Source: Budget 360.

Let me put the above information in proper light since this financial writer is spot on. If all depositors simultaneously demand physical proof of individual wealth the banking intuitions of America don’t have it. What banks do have is less than 1% of real tangible money deposits on hand. This means a $100,000 depositor is entitled to a whopping $430 withdrawal (thanks to today’s fractional reserve banking system).

We often describe an age of capital controls but few actually connect the dots back to themselves. The banking system in parts of Europe is under stifling capital controls. They cannot, and will not, allow depositors to withdrawal tangible currency because the money doesn’t exist. The banking world has replaced real currency with digits (now two degrees separated from gold for those still counting).

Now we both know that here in the U.S. Bernanke can print the 99.57% necessary to make up the difference between a bank’s cash on hand and digits; and is more than willing to do so. But this Criss Angel like magic comes with a price at least if you’re one of the millions storing wealth in today’s banking system.

Controlling the capital (wealth, cash, money, currency, asset, etc.) is an overgrown government’s dream. Capital control corrals the wealth of a society and then allows the money divvied out in only small portions according to the controlling party’s timing. At such a time, technically your wealth still exists; you just no longer have any control over it.

We only have to look at Cyprus as a perfect example of how the world’s depositors should expect to be treated in the very near future. Capital controls use captured wealth as a tool of taxation and sustainability. They don’t call it theft because the word theft sounds too much like stealing; hence the modern-day term haircut.

Picture your bank account as a car in a parking structure with the entrance and exit blocked by capital controls. Your car is still safely stored but you no longer have control over it. This means the controlling party can decide all red cars are needed to say physically block city hall; then removed no longer within owner’s control. All trucks are to be crushed and then used to stabilize nearby creek banks; then removed…..and then crushed, no longer within owner’s control.

Capitally controlling your wealth allows the powers to be to tumble and recycle your financial future through the taxation machine over and over again. It is now reported that Cyprus bank depositors will lose upwards of 40% from this haircut round. Who knows what the next recycling round will take from depositors as they irritatingly watch wealth dissipate without another option.

Physical silver or gold is the only world currency NOT SUBJECT TO TODAY’S RISK OF CAPITAL CONTROLS. I’ve mentioned before that we are beyond arguing the “should we or shouldn’t we” of physical precious metal. If you’re looking for a safe way to store wealth beyond the reach of capital controls I strongly advise each reader to look beyond the doubt; while this option still exists.

QUESTION:  Today I read that Arizona is considering accepting silver and gold coins as legal tender. However the article stated that only coins minted by the government would qualify. Further, that since they would be considered legal tender, they couldn’t be taxed as property. So now I wonder about my silver rounds which I bought as a result of this site. Will I be able to sell them in the future and avoid taxes on any gain in their value? Also, is your book available yet in paper format? Thank you.

TPS Reply:  Thank you for the comment and questions. I agree, it is exciting to see a handful of states pushing back by implementing a competing currency. Will Arizona follow Utah’s precious metal footsteps; it’s too soon to tell? Here is how I see this playing out for what’s worth.

A few readers have emailed with the same sort of legal tender questions so I would like to clear the air. Individual states could view silver and gold as legal tender and possibly exempt from state capital gains, but I have my doubts the IRS will view silver or gold with the same tax exempt status. I’m not a CPA but I would use due diligence, and the help of a good accountant, before assuming a tax avoidance.

Like I mentioned by direct email; I have no plans to sell my rounds in order to buy more government minted silver bullion.  But then again I have no plans to sell or spend silver regardless. Rumors spread quickly and this only proves the volatility of today’s monetary world. Thanks again for the questions and good job keeping your ear to the ground.

As for the book, I’m seriously considering combining two digital books into one paper formatted book. This will give readers twice the bang for their buck. I’ll keep you posted.

QUESTION:  It just seems unpatriotic to abandon the dollar for silver and gold. My family fought wars and spilled blood for this great country.  I would like to believe the US dollar is strong enough to lead us out of this recession and into a thriving economy. Maybe I’m just old fashion?

TPS Reply:  Thanks for the comment. Boy, where do I start. It is no coincidence most paper currencies appear patriotic, regardless the country issuing the fiat money. This purposely instills  pride, patriotism, and generational confidence while central banks spur inflation taxation among her people. Inflation is the one tax virtually unavoidable for most.

Your family did not spill blood for the US dollar; most likely they fought for freedom. A country who willingly debases her currency is not promoting freedom, not by a long shot. I truly admire your patriotic passion but please don’t misinterpret a fiat dollar as this country’s foundation of freedom.

I realize it can be frightening to let go of something we’ve worked hard to amass. Frankly, this anxiety is what keeps most from the protectiveness of PMs. They just can’t get past the dollar’s vulnerability in our fiat implosive age. Please look past this misconception while an alternate currency is still available. Thanks again for the comment.

BERNANKE WATCH:

FED chief Ben Bernanke is the most powerful man on earth. For this reason alone we must pay close attention to the FED’s actions as they relate to your financial independence. Below is an intriguing short video of Bernanke responding to the likelihood of bank runs here in the United States.

In other words, as long as you ignore today’s banking volatility and don’t “lose confidence” or allow fear to become “contagious” the most powerful man on earth will not have to implement capital controls. I find it interesting how Bernanke rolls out the FDIC as a source of protection for depositors. The FDIC’s primary goal in not to insure your bank deposits, its primary goal is to protect banks from Cyprus type bank runs.

BEWARE OF PRECIOUS METAL SCAMS

BUYING GOLD/SILVER, GOLD AND MONEY, GOLD/SILVER COINS, SECURING GOLD & SILVER, SELLING GOLD/SILVER, STOCKS AND GOLD/SILVER   No comments yet

A few events are forever etched in our minds, literally. John Medina, a developmental molecular biologist, claims the reason some memories “stick” and some don’t is simple. Even the brain finds a few events so worthy of record that the mind actually strikes a deeper line in the brain.

Mr. Medina is also quick to point out another fascinating mind nugget. If not for the ability to instantly forget most information….. we will die, within days in fact. Honestly, I can’t deny or verify what this professor of bioengineering claims as factual. What I can say without doubt; I will always and forever recall the moment I decided to buy gold over a decade ago.

Before we dive in today, the Q & A section is all about dealing with PM (precious metal) crooks, be sure to catch it.

Every once in a while someone emails or calls TPS (The Prospector Site) looking to argue precious metal. They usually hangup thinking, “Gosh, this guy doesn’t know much about physical silver/gold for a bestselling precious metal author?” So be it. My goal is not to argue the worthiness of PM for those not ready to own silver or gold.

If I have to convince someone to buy they’ll like me less the first time silver or gold turns south. Before a person is ready to own PM they must first reach a point of realization. Maybe realization is the wrong word, maybe acceptance is better. Regardless, the old way of saving, investing and entrusting your wealth to someone else is over, period.

Until then silver and gold appear just as “risky” as a credit default swap or a Bernanke promise.

Politicians, corporate executives, and media pundits can drum recovery and economic stability but only the most hopeful continue to believe what PM faithful have know for some time. Each new day is another one closer to the demise of a fiat reserve currency. Your decision to own physical metal is a de facto admission of the dollar’s eminent demise; welcome aboard.

This liberation goes beyond silver and gold. My acceptance of monetary truth changed my perception in more ways than space. I found satisfaction beyond things driven by debt or greed. I found myself questioning everything, even to the point of questioning my faith. After all, it’s only after questioning what others blindly accept we learn, and then grow wiser.

Trading dollars for PM goes far beyond investing in the typical sense. Trading dollars for sound money offers savers the ability to grow wealth beyond the risk of confiscation that fills today’s evening news. Pension funds, retirement accounts, bonds, stocks, and real estate can’t offer the same peace of mind. Not that the aforementioned are bad investments, just not protected in this cannibalistic age of taxation and confiscation.

My Prospector Site email blew up Sunday as rumors of Cyprus bank runs filled my smartphone. Someday all bank accounts will face similar capital control challenges from central banks and/or government.  At such a time, you too will remember when and why you decided to buy physical silver/ gold.

QUESTION:  For your information, XWZ Corp (edited) is a con artist willing to sell old folks like me overpriced gold coins. Its been over two years and the coins are worth half of what we paid. A local coin dealer appraised the coins so I know what they’re worth……HALF, OR LESS. Something must stop the con artists in the bullion business!!!!!! (EDITED, A LOT)

TPS Reply:  First let me say how sorry I am.  You’re right, it sounds like you paid far over market for the nine rare coins we discussed during our phone consultation.  This deceptive practice is unconscionable – but I hear stories like yours far too often.  If I were in your position, I’d safely store the coins away knowing someday soon the PM market will, in all likelihood, surpass this over-market premium you paid. I realize this doesn’t help much but it’s not a loss unless you decide to sell short.

NOTE:  I spent at least an hour with this client and, honestly, the situation is not fixable; but due diligence could have saved a lot of hardship.  People are afraid like never in my lifetime. They hear about bank holidays (Cyprus), they see inflation stealing more from a fixed income, and then they hear some advertiser promoting gold as the answer to everything economically wrong. This, my friends, is when the trouble begins.

Now, let’s focus on how this never happens to you or anyone you know. Since I don’t sell PM let me first say the metal this author recommends exposes a PM crook in less than 30 seconds. Precious metal sellers can only take advantage of those lacking PM knowledge, this excludes you.  The majority of PM victims do not know what they’re buying; they just know it’s made from silver/gold. Buying any silver or gold is not good enough; we must put the “right” metal in your safekeeping….soon.

If you truly feel the need to trade dollars for PM but are not 100% confident in the process, then call or email me. I represent you the buyer, never the PM dealer, broker or seller. I don’t charge a percentage; regardless if you buy all the gold stored in Fort Knox or one silver ounce, it makes no monetary difference to me. I charge according to how much time it takes me to find and secure the right metal FOR YOU, I receive zero compensation from the seller.

Locating the right metal for a customer sometimes takes less than an hour, in many cases, or it could take a little longer. Regardless, you’re only charged for the time it takes according to your situation, no surprises. It is not unusual for my fee to total a $100 – $200 (is $100 too much for the peace of mind knowing you’re PM protected with the right metal AND at the best price possible?). It’s time we bring integrity back into the PM market and this is exactly what I intend to do. Contact me here for more information.

QUESTION: I just don’t understand, gold doesn’t pay a dividend or interest, correct? It rests in a vault, in a secret location, all while protected by the best security possible. Wouldn’t you agree that the only thing physical PMs can offer is the chance of appreciation?

TPS Reply: Thanks for the comment and questions. You are correct in regard to gold’s inability to pay interest, it typically does not. Respectfully, I 100% disagree that the only thing physical PM can offer is the chance of appreciation. Gold and silver equal money, everything else we typically call money is currency. Please stop thinking like an investor, think like an innovator (innovators are willing to change).

It’s time the PM skeptical face a few facts. Investors (savers) are long for the slaughter and Cyprus is proof. Eventually the entitled of the world will far outnumber the savers (depositors, pension holders; all investors with exposed wealth). At such a time, the entitled (impoverished) will not only condone new taxation and wealth confiscation – THEY WILL DEMAND IT.

The world’s stockholders fail to compare their risk to a Cyprus depositor (by the way, depositors in Cyprus are under capital controls by way of a bank holiday). A typically safe storage of wealth can no longer keep pace with inflation (certificates of deposit, money markets, savings accounts), they no longer pay a reasonable rate of return.

Even ultra-conservative investors now turn to stocks in order to preserve wealth; this is why the DJIA is at a new high. Someday soon the entitled of the world (impoverished) will far outnumber those holding wealth in stocks. At such a time, ones depending on entitlement will not only support new taxation – they will demand it. Remember, giants rarely die suddenly; they starve slowly but only after total consumption.

How can you or any other stock investor honestly believe your wealth glowing on Wall Street will not fall under confiscation, capital controls or painful levels of new taxation?

This is what happens when currencies die and governments lose power; this is what divides nations, states, communities, churches, and families, too. Thinking like an investor in an age of wealth confiscation is nothing short of dangerous. My advice is to transfer some wealth, if not most, into something less vulnerable to taxation and confiscation. Physical silver and gold are part of the few safe havens outside the banking/ investment system.

We’re past the point of arguing if silver or gold are worthy investments. The only questions left: how quickly can you turn dollars to PM, what to buy, from whom, and at least three safeguards for PM storage. Time will validate the aforementioned.

QUESTION:  Just paid slightly over $33 per coin from an online PM broker. I’m seriously considering buying more silver but questioning if the price is fair? Thank you.

TPS Reply: Congrats to you for practicing such prudence; I just paid close to the same per ounce price. Now, I have a question or two for you. Do your coins contain one ounce of silver, many do not? Do you know the difference? Please contact me immediately if you don’t.

My suggestion is to view silver like a typical bank savings account. Most Americans no longer save; they spend every dime that comes in – plus some.

Using PM as a savings offers two huge benefits. One, it’s far more difficult to impulsively spend a savings in PM. Two, a savings in PM will rise beyond the imagination of even the most optimistic PM holder (my opinion, use due diligence). We’re living what history will someday describe as the largest monetary shakeup of mankind. The fiat currency experiment has reached the boiling point. Thanks for the question.

BERNANKE WATCH:

The most powerful man in the world is not a politician, not significantly wealthy….. yet rather mysterious to most folks obliviously wondering through life. His name is Ben Bernanke and it is certainly in your best interest to understand how his influence will directly affect your future. He is the most powerful man on earth and starting today we will feature a “Bernanke Watch” in each TPS post.

There is no doubt FED Chief Bernanke is a very smart man. His words are purposely patterned to instill monetary confidence and, unfortunately, monetary confusion. The trouble within our global economy is not Mr. Bernanke’s fault. Bernanke is nothing more than a very significant snapshot in time now controlling the most powerful, yet most secretive, monetary entity on earth.

In the above video Bernanke defends the FEDS actions with six powerful words. He said, “…..never lost a penny doing it. It is imperative to understand that it’s impossible for the FED to lose dollars. They are the only entity in the world that can create unlimited amounts of dollars from thin air. Today’s era of no restraint allows the FED to create dollars, secretly, and obviously accountable to no one (according to the above video).

Don’t miss our next Bernanke Watch when we discuss exactly how the FED not only influences the DJIA but controls it too.

GOLD DISORDER?

BUYING GOLD/SILVER, GOLD & SILVER, GOLD AND MONEY, SELLING GOLD/SILVER   No comments yet

By now I’m hoping my readers understand gold and silver’s relevancy according to the age we live. The benefit of such understanding extends beyond the typical layman’s confusion during PM (precious metal) decline, like lately. I pay little attention to the dollar number next to gold or silver. It means nothing when it rises and means less when it declines. I view both metals as necessary according to our real-time economic climate and will only change my opinion of PM relevance when fiscal sanity improves. Until then words like disorder, disturbance, disarrangement and decline mean nothing as others use these descriptions to label PM volatility. I pray you feel as I do.

Even more ironic – while the world views hard assets as risky a growing minority are feverishly adding new stacks of both silver and gold simultaneously.  Metal buyers realize the dollar lid is no longer in jeopardy of blowing off, it’s blowing off. This is why over 7 million ounces of Silver Eagles found new homes in January 2013 alone. The time to buy physical silver or gold is upon us.

Political leaders are on the offensive. This means they will say anything to keep law abiding individuals from pouring into the streets under protest over record deficits with no plan to scale back the size and power of government.

Their offense (government) creates a defensive nature in most Americans. Look how quickly this administration rolled from PPACA (Obama Care) to gun control to immigration reform to who knows what’s next. Folks, it’s only February and the arrows out of Washington have every taxpayer, every business person thinking of nothing but self preservation.

This offensive role is no accident. You can’t ignite revolt, monetarily or otherwise, while circling the wagons. The gold disorder of today is part of such assault.  Keep PM volatile and less differentiate real money from promissory notes, aka dollars. There is no gold disorder, there is only fiat disorder. You must know and accept the difference in order to trust the same protective instincts that drove you to PMs in the first place!!!

We often hear economic experts try to explain wealth distribution. This means nothing more than the rich getting richer and the middleclass & poor growing poorer. I don’t see it this way, at least not exactly. I see it more like a power shift built around vulnerability, wealth distribution is only a byproduct of a society less interested in real socio-political & monetary issues and more enthralled with modern entertainment & entitlement.

We only accept the proposal of something unconstitutional – like gun control – because we feel vulnerable, or unsafe. We only accept governmental overreach because we feel vulnerable to economic correction. We only allow massive currency printing and dollar debasement because we desperately desire normalcy in exchange for vulnerability.

This feeling of vulnerability eludes those that control their own wealth. The governmental infringements aforementioned are inconvenient, yes, but nothing close to a level of dictating. I see little disorder among those prudent enough to store wealth within physical silver and gold AND living a life of self reliance. Again, the dollar sign attached to today’s gold and silver has nothing to do with it.

QUESTION:  What is happening to physical gold and silver? Why is it not going higher?

TPS Reply:  Thanks for the short question. Not only is gold not going higher but it’s down around 5% year-to-date. Your question is worth asking but unfortunately no one can honestly offer an answer. Gold has appreciated, on average, around 17% per year over the last decade; I expect this trend to continue over long term.

Most gold experts will answer a question like yours by trying to explain PM suppression. I rarely mention metal suppression because to me it’s wasted energy and discussion. We can’t control naked shorting, nor can we control Wall Street’s finest who are more interested in their own interest over trading with integrity. I refuse to be a part of such monetary recklessness.

No one thinking realistically will question gold’s relativity in such an age as we’re living today. The fact gold is suppressed is the good news since this offers readers like you an extended opportunity to add more silver and gold to your growing stack. I recommend we stay the course, regardless how gold performs in the short term. Thanks for the question.

QUESTION:  Love the Prospector Site and really enjoyed your book.  I have a question relating to reportable PMs at time of sale. Can you explain why some silver and gold sales are reported to the IRS and some aren’t (when sold). Is it that important to buy PM excluded from notification at time of sale? Thanks again for what you do.

TPS Reply: Thanks for the kind words. You are correct; some PM transactions will trigger IRS 1099-B. As of right now some won’t, the determining factor lies within how, what, and to whom you sell. Selling metal back to a PM dealer will trigger an IRS notification IF THE PM SOLD FALLS WITHIN REPORTABLE SILVER & GOLD.

Is it that important to buy PMs excluded from such income notification? Probably….. here is why. I have little doubt that a government so large and in debt will eventually demand notification of most reportable income. Silver and gold held in American Eagles, by example, are excluded and do not require an IRS notification after sale, at least for now. This means declaring such income is voluntary (of course you could face stiff penalties if hiding income).

The difference between amount paid and amount sold is income. This income…to my understanding falls under capital gain and is subject to taxation. This taxation INCLUDES all gold and silver sales, nothing excluded. Now back to your question, some forms of bullion, bars and rounds will not trigger an IRS notification. This doesn’t exclude the metal holder from a tax obligation but will exclude a seller from receiving IRS 1099-B form.

I’m not here to preach tax obligations or obstruction. Each person holding PM is accountable as they choose. I provide the facts as I see them and the choice, as always, is yours. Feel free to set up a personal consultation since buying the right silver and gold is something we’ll completely cover. Thanks for the questions.

COMMENT:  I was stunned to find this site.  These are my sentiments exactly.  It has taken me awhile to get myself together and begin the process of purchasing pm.  I would more than welcome info on where to purchase safely.

TPS Reply:  Fantastic, another one joins the growing minority of PM holders….good for you. The process of safely buying silver and gold need not be complex. The “right” PM is all metal offered as close to spot price as possible. Finding the right source is crucial in order to have the peace of mind that only comes from PM authenticity.  You can’t go wrong with new bullion American Eagles, gold or silver.

I recommend contacting Colorado Gold or Miles Franklin if searching for a reliable PM source.  Congrats for making the most influential monetary decision of your life.

 Worth Watching:

The video below features Paul Harvey. For those unfamiliar, Paul Harvey was a radio broadcaster very concerned with the economic and social decay of America. We lost Mr. Harvey in 2009 but his words ring loud as ever thanks to modern-day technology. Please take a few minutes to watch, or re watch, If I Were the Devil by none other than Mr. Paul Harvey. Oh, did I mention the message below was recorded over 47 years ago, amazing.

THE BUSINESS OF GOLD

BUYING GOLD/SILVER, GOLD & SILVER, GOLD AND MONEY, SELLING GOLD/SILVER   1 comment

Have you wondered how a person can profit from gold/silver beyond ownership? Our world is changing at a pace most cannot envision. This change is disruptive for most folks who have now grown accustom to normalcy. Like it or not economic imbalance is the new normal. But today I’m here to say that a new normal offers opportunity for those willing to embrace change and then feed the growing industry soon described. This potential comes thanks to the blooming business of gold.

It is no secret we are living in a global age. Technology has forever changed the way goods and information connects obscurity with opportunity. But even in such a global age something radical is about to change within your local economy. This change is compliments of a society unaware of how quickly incomes will diminish or fall under capital control. Let’s look at diminishing income first.

A sobering chart hangs in my office titled Production Worker’s Hourly Wages in Gold. It begins with my birth year (1965) showing the average American hourly wage earner making around 2.3 gold grams per hour. The chart ends in 2012 with the same wage earner making around .40 gold grams (over 5 times less). This vital tale of earning decline eludes those who do not understand gold and silver. Most view a better wage gauged in dollars, not grams of gold. They don’t factor the shrinking value of currency.

Now let’s address capital control. Capital control is a term you should expect to hear more of in the near future. Capital control is just another way a government controls the wealth and positioning of her people. It should be obvious that governments around the world are growing and have no intention of changing course. Growth takes revenue. This revenue comes from printing more currency or redirecting the wealth of the taxpayer, saver, investor, and eventually, the impoverished.

As more folks rely on government for a paycheck…. and their very existence, this offers more opportunity for price controls. This is something I’ve realized for many years and why I refuse to compromise my wealth to such tyranny.  The more people dependent on government the easier it becomes to justify the need for price control measures. After all, it is unpatriotic to not pay “your fair share“. Rarely are patriotism, impoverishment, and currency debasement mentioned in the same sentence.

The bad news is you cannot fight the trend just described…..not toe to toe at least. But you can alienate your wealth and future into a position that benefits from such a disturbing trend. Starting a small business is the next economic safe haven for those who refuse to pay one dime more (in taxes) than necessary. Patriotism has nothing to do with it. We will discuss many more small business opportunities here on TPS in the future.

Today’s opportunity is all about gold. Not just owning gold, or silver, but building a business around gold. Everyone reading today already views gold as real money. This will only become more obvious as currencies around the world grow increasing worthless. This will lead everyday folks searching for real assets. The intent, or trend, is finding something of value and turning it into cash….. not realizing too much cash is the problem. It will take time to bypass the misconception of dollars as money but this monetary fact will reveal itself.

This misconception is an opportunity to grow wealth and increase cash flow. The opportunity described today is not a cash for gold type business. It is a gold for dollars business; let me explain. Most Americans are sitting on more silver and gold than they realize. They will eventually realize the potential of this wealth and look for ways to turn jewelry and old coins into a currency. This currency will pay the electric bill, buy a gallon of milk, and so on.

Entrepreneurs will capitalize on such a demand and need. How, by offering their local economy a source to leverage silver and gold for dollars? Typically, today’s cash for gold industry buy scrap PM (precious metal) for a discount. Once the exchange is complete the metal is gone forever leaving the seller with nothing more than a temporary fix for a long-term problem.

The trend; or business opportunity I’m describing today goes beyond a typical cash for gold scenario. The new trend will resemble something similar to a small banking institution. As the value of gold and silver becomes more obvious, fewer are willing to participate in discount selling. This will lead to leveraging unlike anything we’ve seen before, at least with PM. Picture a modern-day “quick cash” business that holds scrap, jewelery, bullion or rounds in exchange for a short-term loan. The lender holds the metal and the PM is the collateral.

Let’s take a look at the benefits for both the lender (new business) and borrower. The lender, or person that accepts PM in exchange for a short-term loan, is repaid plus paid above market interest each month. If the borrower fails to repay the loan then the small business keeps the PM. The borrower benefits by temporarily leveraging a valuable asset, silver and gold, for liquidity (cash) all without forfeiting PM ownership.  Picture a modern-day pawn business that services the low, middle, and upper income classes.

I expect this new business opportunity to simulate a pawn shop but without the racks of power drills and golf clubs. This venture could be a stand alone business or fit nicely into an existing brick-n-mortar establishment. Today’s technology will simplify the accounting side by taking advantage of today’s online pay systems. If you’re in the market to profit beyond PM buy and hold, I strongly encourage a closer look at the new business of gold.

 LOOKING FOR GOLD?

Are you a prospector? If so, I’ve been contacted by a television production company interested in casting real prospectors for a new TV show. They are currently working through the show’s casting process so send me over an email if you’re interested and I’ll forward it to the decision makers.

WHY IT’S HARD TO JUSTIFY PRECIOUS METAL

BUYING GOLD/SILVER, GOLD & SILVER, GOLD AND MONEY, GOLD OR SILVER BUBBLE, SECURING GOLD & SILVER, SELLING GOLD/SILVER   No comments yet

It’s hard to explain the value of physical silver and gold to someone clueless. I often hear people ask, “Why is it so important to buy PM (precious metal)” or “why do you buy silver?” The very fact a person asks such a question tells me they’re not ready for PM, not personally at least. This is okay. Each person first has to come to terms that our economic recovery is an illusion before giving an ounce of thought to gold. I find myself comparing it to a gravely ill loved one who is imminently facing death. Like a life ending, the transition of currency back to sound money (hard assets) is a natural occurrence often repeated throughout history.

It usually takes on hour with a client – by phone -to match the right metal, where to buy it, and how to store it. This assumes the person is really interested in buying PMs in the first place. Some folks aren’t ready for the party to end. They’re still holding out for “normal” to return and, honestly, suffering from a self-centered perspective.

Buying silver or gold is a timing thing. My decision to own PM developed along with an overall life plan for independence. Growing wealth by way of PMs is a byproduct of self reliance. Sure I like the fact my savings grows each year but I like being a spectator during times of economic calamity most. I’m not sure what others think when I compare PM to monetary insulation.

Some have emailed asking how to convince a spouse or adviser of PM’s relevancy in this age we live.  I’ve even had some clients ask me to speak with a spouse which, by the way, is rarely enjoyable for either party. It’s not uncommon for one spouse to eventually buy silver or gold behind the other one’s back. I don’t recommend this in most situations.

I personally don’t believe in convincing people to own PMs. I’ve seen this turn into a blame fest the first time gold dips or silver turns volatile. It is much more productive to establish signals of relevance; below are but a few examples.

1.  Keep track of food costs; even to the point of writing costs down (rising costs are signs of inflation).

2.  Watch how often Washington solves fiscal problems by borrowing and taxation, never cutting.

3.  Begin to track values not in dollars but gold grams.

4.  Pay close attention to your local economy (a local economy is far more relevant than a national or global one).

5.  Make yourself aware how often elected leaders blame others or an event for a bad job’s report, growth, etc.

6.  Be aware how often the media distracts viewers in regard to “real” economic events.

7. Make note the ways the US simulates the failing path of Greece and Spain.

8. Research and track where the money comes from (who backstops the mortgage industry?).

Well over 90% of those sitting on PM sidelines are waiting for metal prices to rise. They gauge silver and gold’s relevance on rising metal values. The last couple of bubble decades have ruined too many small investors. They fail to ask themselves “why” an asset rises. This is why so many lost a fortune in the last housing bust. This is why others will lose a fortune in the next housing bust. We used to be “buy low” investors and good money stewards. Now, we’re “buy based on demand and a rising price” investors.

I began my gold voyage when it sold in the high 300s. I viewed gold’s protectiveness first and potential wealth gain secondly. The fact so few have the same view only proves far too many folks today underestimate the gravity of today’s economic situation. They are, in all actuality, still looking for the quick buck and care less about protecting their assets.

Dare to guess the number one reason folks aren’t buying precious metal? It is because precious metal hasn’t experienced a big price jump in the last year or so. This inaction leads to complacency. The one thing this writer can just about guarantee is this next point.  We will reach a time, in the near future, when everyone with a dime to spare will long to own PMs….. without convincing.

Question: Thanks for TPS. I’m struggling with a safe way to protect my PMs from confiscation and theft. I’ll get to my point quickly since I’m sure you receive many emails. If I decide to store some of my gold internationally will these depositories notify the IRS when I sell? Any ideas how to discretely buy and sell?

TPS Reply: Thank you for reading TPS, and asking such great questions. As you know, today’s administration is adamant with everyone paying their fair share. This means your PM profit has a big bull’s eye on it. I would expect to receive a 1099 when you decide to sell, and this includes all assets…..not just PM. I recommend keeping record of price paid, price sold of all reportable gold.  To answer your question I would expect a 1099 form regardless where the metal is located.

Here is my plan, for what’s worth. I’m a long-term PM owner. I believe I can outlast our overreaching government. This means I have no plans to sell my gold anytime soon. Things change quickly and my plan may have to adapt along with this change. At some point precious metal values could get ahead of themselves (bubble).

I believe silver and gold will eventually back a new or existing currency. How can this not be good for those of us holding physical PM? If my choices are to chance paying high PM taxes or losing my wealth in dollars, I’ll pick gold seven days a week. The “Golden Rule” always works in favor of those holding real money.

Now, your last question about discretion is good. We still have choices as of February 2013. This means you can legally buy physical silver and gold with no records attached. I strongly advise each person reading to consider exercising this freedom. Thanks for the questions and send new ones over anytime.
